Church Music

St. Sepulchre's has an illustrious musical tradition. The ashes of Sir Henry Wood, founder of the Promenade Concerts - the longest running continuous series of orchestral concerts in the world - are interred in the Musicians' Chapel where now can be found the Musicians' Book of Remembrance containing the names of over two thousand professional musicians as well as windows dedicated to John Ireland, Dame Nellie Melba and others. St. Sepulchre's was the first London home of the School of English Church Music - now the RSCM - founded by Sydney Nicholson in 1928.

Nowadays, St. Sepulchre's again has a thriving musical life and a range of musical activities including regular weekly Choral Evensong, lunch time and evening concerts, as well as other special events. These include a recent BBC Songs of Praise programme about the life and work of St Sepulchre's, the launch of New English Praise, the centenary supplement to the New English Hymnal, and the Centenary AGM of the Church Music Society. There are three choral groups based at the Church - the Choir of St. Sepulchre-without-Newgate, the Choral Scholars and the St Sepulchre Singers.
